Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

DubbelExceptional29 Nov 2008 Wowee. Perfect condition, full rich buttery hit and a long bitter aftertaste. The strongest on offer and one of the many highlights of the day.

The Rake, Southwark, Central London

IanExcellent12 Aug 2006 This was the real reason I came, to have a cask barley wine. I have never seen or heard about this being available before. Only served in 1/3 or 1/2 pints for the obvious reasons. This is a rich red chestnut beer with no head. Raisin aroma. Sweet. Choc malts. Bit of whisky. Thick, syrupy texture. Choc malts last til the finish, with a bit of alcohol heat. Bit of a tang/spice edge. Almost like a sweet sherry. Toffee too. Some raspberry/dark cherry fruit flavours. Sticky toffee/choc. A most remarkable beer and a real shock to the system. It took me the best part of 45 minutes to drink a half.
