Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

AlenomoreExceptional03 Dec 2011 My final Ale today and another top condition strong dark un', very good too. "The legendary dark beer from Oakham. Named after the plate that covers the hole for the anchor chain on a ship in rough weather".

The Bull, Horton Kirby, Kent

WhoScoreWhenNotes
DubbelExcellent04 Dec 2008 Not quite as exceptional as the sample from 25 Nov. More bitterness this time with not so many ripe fruits to counterbalance the astringency.
DubbelExceptional25 Nov 2008 Described by the landlord as "quite possibly the best ale we've ever had on", and they've had some corkers recently. Selling very well for its strength. Thick, carbon black, strong porter scent and an explosion of ripened fruits and burnt charcoal flavours. Simply magnificent.

BlairExceptional31 Oct 2008 Just as good as the other day, knocks you for six.
BlairExceptional30 Oct 2008 There is no way I can give a beer this complex and interesting anything less than 5 stars. Very dark porter style beer. Very burned roast malt flavour with tons of hops, chocolate and coffee. Bit of fruit in there as well. Just an exceptional beer.
