Visits Details

08 Jun 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Late Sunday afternoon call, at a time when the pub was pretty quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Topaz4.70GoodAmber-coloured. A slightly jarring mix of sweetish malt and very bitter hop character.
Canterbury Brewers - Biggleston's Bird Man3.60GoodA Brown Ale with plenty of hops.
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Man's Gold4.00Not Tried
31 Jan 2014 (Brian)
About 16:00, almost full with a mixed crowd of folk.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Torpedo4.50ExcellentFruit and body, not at all like a lager.
Canterbury Brewers - Heresy IPL4.90AcceptableServed in a jug like I used to drink Double Diamond out of in the Olive Branch back in the day. Not my style any more, too dry, thin lacking any kind of depth. I guess it's how it's supposed to be and it went down easily enough. Better than Skol but only average.
Canterbury Brewers - Little Red Rye4.50Not Tried
24 Jan 2014 (Andrew)

Quiet. Echos of Jim Vanns leaving-do 8 years ago still haunt this pub for me.

Mid afternoon. Nice place to be. Bar staff are young and efficient.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Oatmeal Stout4.60ExcellentSurprised that it was still on as the guests seem to come and go. Really excellent stout.
Canterbury Brewers - Street Light Porter5.80ExcellentIf the oatmeal stout was an excellent then this was an excellent+. I could drink this all day...well except at 5.8% I couldn't, but apart from that it's a superb coffee, chocolate, silky smooth sweet porter. As good here as at the Foundry
Canterbury Brewers - Canterbury Wheat4.40Not Tried
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Helles4.10Not Tried

About 14:00 on a pleasant Sunday. Half-full, some youngsters, most people my age...
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Oatmeal Stout4.60ExcellentReally nice. A thin, reedy bitterness and a coffee finish. Jet black with beige head. Perfect condition.
Canterbury Brewers - Loco IPA3.90ExcellentI've only had this once before and wasn't impressed. Must of had a bad pint, this was excellent. Big, lemony hit of ..er lemon and new mown grass. Soap suddy head and yellow body.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider4.30Not Tried
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Man's Gold4.00Not Tried
09 Feb 2013 (Brian)
Great pub if you go at the right time and can find a seat. I was here about 16:00, so no problem there. The bar staff are really nice and the atmosphere is relaxed for a city centre pub. There are normally at least two (sometimes three) Canterbury Brewers beers on plus an interesting guest (as today).
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Hophead (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.80ExcellentWas going to be my first beer of the day at the Butcher's but no sign there so had to wait to get back to town. Worth the wait, everything as it should be with this beer.
Canterbury Brewers - Foundry Man's Gold4.00Not Tried
Canterbury Brewers - Canterbury Haka4.10Not Tried
Canterbury Brewers - Black5.10Not TriedShould have stayed for one of these as at the Foundry there was nothing dark on.
