Late afternoon. Good choice of beers only 1 national bland present. Barman offered us a taster of each beer on.

There is an IPA festival underway here, with a very good beer list and excellent organisation. Not half expensive though. Part of what you pay for here is the superb view – rendered worthless tonight by the persistent rain. I list all of the cask beers that were on at the festival (regular beers were also available inside the pub), plus those from the extensive keg and bottle list that I tried.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marble - Earl Grey IPA6.00ExceptionalA collaboration brew with Emellise of the Netherlands. Orangey/gold in colour. A full-flavoured IPA with black tea, spice, citrus and herbal tastes.
Buxton - Carnage IPA7.40ExcellentOn keg dispense – a collaboration beer with To Øl of Denmark. Orangey in colour. Cloudy. Citrussy and peppery hop flavours.
Siren Craft - 1/2 Mast, Quarter IPA2.80ExcellentExcellent low-strength, full-flavoured, golden IPA
Hand Drawn Monkey - IPΔ Extra Pale IPA5.00GoodGolden. Hazy and a bit yeasty. Lemony and sherbety hop tastes.
Hop Studio - Obsidian5.00GoodA very competent Black IPA, but just too much in the way of coffee tastes for me.
Adnams - Clump Sagin Rye IPA5.00AcceptableOn keg dispense. I found this disappointing. Sweetish and fizzy, some toffee. Nothing special – a bit like a standard Austrian Roggenbier I thought.

Evening visit. There is a well-organised beer festival in progress on the riverside terrace to the side of the pub. Well-attended, although there are showers to dodge.

I had business on the Island in the late afternoon and was able to sneak a quick pint out on the riverside terrace before this pub got busy with after-workers. Unashamedly up-market in here, but the real ale is reasonably priced.

The pub is found in Docklands & Isle of Dogs, Greater London, E14 9NS.

The Gun was established in 1710 and had a succession of names, including King & Queen, Rose & Crown and Ramsgate Pink, before settling on the Gun name in 1770. In the nineteenth century it belonged to Messrs Hodgson & Co., brewers of Bow – the famous exporters of India Pale Ale. In more recent years it was an Ind Coope house. Today the pub retains a very traditional feel, if somewhat up-market. There are a variety of rooms to chose from, as well as a riverside terrace affording wide views across to the Millennium Dome. Restaurant standard food available and the operation does seem food-led. 4 handpumps on the bar counter in the front room off the street. Sold by ETM Group to Fuller's in summer 2016, after running it for 12 years.

We have visited this pub 14 times, seen 83 different beers and tried 33 of them.
