about 7 pm - I was the only customer but it got busier and, as is the norm with micropubs, I engaged in enjoyable conversation with a number of others. The landlord is organising a beer festival on the village green in a couple of weeks time.

Afternoon. As Johnnie come lately I was not affected by the late opening until the affected horde returned in medium to high dudgeon. Seems very spartan in here.

12:55 We returned to find it was now open, 45 minutes after the advertised opening time. I particularly dislike late opening. I had left home in Norfolk at 07:25 to come to Wye for 12:00 but had to kick my heels as the pub cannot be bothered to stick to its opening times. Having got that off my chest I liked the pub. The six of us, which included Chris E, were joined here by Philip Pirrip. A rare daylight sighting.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ripple Steam - Classic IPA4.50AcceptableNot hoppy enough for an IPA. No life at all.

Oh dear, six of us and three other chaps stood outside from 12:00 to 12:20ish waiting for the pub to open. The lady from the flower shop tried to contact the landlord by text message but got no reply. In the end we went to the New Flying Horse for a pint and found the pub open on our return, a girl serving behind the bar was most apologetic for the late opening.

Mid evening and I made it 10 customers - good buzz, very friendly welcome and soon got chatting to some regulars - this is what micro pubs are all about. First pint "Barbers Special" - assume this was a locally rebranded ale - but could not confirm its origin - good condition, fresh and palatable but not distinctive. Would rate it "good".
BeerABVScoreNotes
Northumberland - Firkin Freezing3.90ExcellentTop class - strong bitter taste that hit the back of the gums.
Loddon - Gravesend Shrimpers Bitter4.10GoodNot at all lively but very bright with a distinct malty nose. (Only had a small taster)

The pub is found in Wye, Kent, TN25 5DP.

In Bridge Street, first opened its doors as a micropub over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend 2013 with the evening session on Friday 31st May. The proprietor was Graham Austen, a cabinet maker who had fought objections from some villagers to obtain planning permission and change of use from being a hairdresser's salon. Located at the village end of Bridge Street this one roomer is entered up several steps. As Barbers Arms it was bare boarded with a bar counter, the beer was kept (jacket cooled) in a back room stillaged for gravity dispense on racking made of builders' scaffolding. Large front window made up of individual panes. Bench seating - one of which has its back made of beer cask staves. Unisex toilet at back of building. Was then sister pub to Bookmakers Arms at Charing. Closed in early February 2019 with a Facebook post explaining why: 18 February at 02:11 Thank you to everyone who has supported the Barbers Arms over the past five and a half years. We are very sad that we were forced to close a bar which meant so much to us and many others; we had some fantastic times! Unfortunately the landlord wanted the property back to run his own venture, so we had no choice but to close. We hope to see some of you in the sister micro pub The Bookmakers Arms in Charing, which has the same great vibe as The Barbers. Reopened as Sawyers on 5th April 2019 saying it was a proper pub not a micropub, still selling Kentish real ales.

We have visited this pub 23 times, seen 45 different beers and tried 33 of them.
