Pub no. 2 on crawl. We sat outside as the sun was shining.

Went to the Dolphin but it was packed with eaters and with only one girl behind the bar we decided to come here. This place was virtually empty, it really has lost it's atmosphere since Youngs took over. It's lost that authentic grubbiness if you know what I mean, that used to make it feel comfortable.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA3.80GoodDidn't facy the Youngs or the Parrot Ale so went for this. Nice enough. Slightly hazy, but clean and sharp. Some citrus / grapefruit and a bit of pear drops in the finish.

I bought some chocs from the shop around the corner run by an ex-colleague of mine and whilst they packaged up the boxes, I came here for a pint. There was some tree surgery going on and I sat outside in the lovely sunshine

Quite a few in the garden as it was a nice day for the end of Feb and the garden's a bit of a sun trap. Andrew seemed to be chairing a large meeting of the Friday lunchtime slackers, so I left him to it and sat by the fire and chatted to the barman.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA3.80GoodGood reliable golden session beer. Perfectly served here as well. Amber body, constant white head, fresh in the mouth and a nice bite. I suppose what I like is that it takes no effort at all to drink.

Sat in the garden and enjoyed the winter sun - who needs Majorca. .
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50ExcellentWhat all those in the know were drinking. Reedy body, hints of red fruit, well rounded and very drinkable.
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special)4.50GoodBrown, herby, dry. Good but not really my kind of thing. The depth was a bit missing.

With top class “gen” at my disposal I came to have some Dominator. The pub was empty save for 2 ladies lunching. I sat facing the windows and after 2 sips and a minute of the mesmeric sub-funky smooth jazz on the stereo I found myself slipping into a trance that had me sitting on the tiles of the roof opposite. Nice.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Dominator5.10ExcellentReally nice. A strong toasted syrup (can you toast syrup?) bite to it with vanilla and strawberry coming out to play.

Well, I had to check it out didn't I? Saturday dinner time. Quite a few in but still quite quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Dominator5.10ExcellentThis was much better than at the Tavern a week or so ago. The bitter orange marmalade bite was back as I remembered it. Malty, crispy at the back and a burst of juicy fruits up front. Most of the regulars were asking about the lack of Incubus though, maybe the strength of this puts them off, or maybe they were looking for a velvet pulse!
08 Jan 2009 (Brian)
Late afternoon, only a couple of others in. It was gloomy and warm.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's Winter Warmer5.00ExcellentReally excellent. Usual liquorice, chocolate depth, but with a hint of green apples from somewhere.

I sat by the real fire. Not very busy as I was the only one sat round the back.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Parrot Ale4.00GoodNo idea what this is now. Lighter in colour than when I had it first. At a guess I'd say it's a mix of Skrimshander and Golden Braid. An email to Tonie Prins I feel, to clarify. No smoke at all. Still, a suppable best bitter, bit sweetish, bit hoppy.

Moved over from the Dolphin and this pub was empty, save for us and the barman. The log fires were blazing though and the standard of the records they play has gone up - no more Classic FM, now you get an eclectic mix of British Sea Power, Adele and the Jam.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Parrot Ale4.00GoodBit lively and the barman brought it over to me once it had settled. It wasn't bad but didn't have the smokey bacon bbq flavour of previous tries.
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's Winter Warmer5.00Not TriedTried this on my last visit (which I forgot to add) and it was excellent.
