Saturday afternoon and central Manchester was heaving with people. We had given up trying to enter pubs in the Deansgate area as most were full with queues and door control allowing one customer in when one left. We decided to abandon Deansgate and the Christmas Markets area and head for back streets or relatively unknown pubs and found refuge here, they had obviously had a very busy day as all the beers on the blackboard and others had appeared on the pubs, more beer was being delivered whilst we sat and drank our beer.

Beer festival here with a stillage in the market area.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dunham Massey - Chocolate Cherry Mild3.80ExcellentCherry dominating in this sample with the chocolate malt taking a back seat. Still a classic though. My score 16/20.
Welbeck Abbey - White Cannon2.80AcceptablePale low strength bitter with a strong bitter hop flavour but little balance leaving a rather one dimensional beer. My score 14/20.

This quirky little pub has doubled in size since my last visit, expanding into a neighbouring unit in the Food Hall – but it is still tiny. A steady trade, and apparently people had been queuing up for the tapping of the Extra Rum Porter cask at 11am the previous morning.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Boggart - Extra Rum Porter6.40GoodBlack and smooth and very alcoholic, the strong rum taste and smell giving an impression of alcohol volume well above the stated 6.4%.
Ossett - Voyager4.20GoodA copper coloured, malty beer with a bitter finish.
Boggart - I Am Beer4.20Not Tried
