Late afternoon visit and much talk about Shepherd Neame taking over Village Green Restaurants. The general feeling is that they are not going to change a winning formula.

My first visit since refurbishment and it's still kept it's pub atmosphere unlike others in this chain which are restaurants with bars. Lunch time and very quiet, more staff than customers. I drew attention that Mexican Garlic Bread is no longer available on the menu and the chef kindly made one especially for me.
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale3.70ExceptionalA short wait while the barman put a fresh cask on and the result was a perfect pint. Delicious!

This pub has now re-opened as the Swan and Dog, and has been trading again for just under a fortnight. There was still some building work going on outside but the internal works seem pretty well complete. In addition to the beers that I have listed there was a house beer from Old Dairy called Old Dairy Swan & Dog at 3.8%abv.
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale3.70AcceptableCold and lacking condition.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00AcceptableA bit too cold for my liking.

This pub is currently closed for major refurbishment and is expected to re-open in September 2014 as the Swan and Dog.
28 Aug 2013 (ChrisE)
I was the only customer at the time of my visit. This pub is to be sold by auction in early September and is currently being run by a holding manager who told me that there have been several visits by people who hope to take it on as a pub/restaurant although he expects a period of temporary closure following the auction.
