This pub has recently reopened after a refurbishment. The wallpaper and curtains have gone and the parquet flooring is now a light wood colour, it was rather dark before.

Recently re-opened as a Gastropub am pleased to say my expectations of dread were unfounded, in fact IMO this place has improved including the beer choice, and the layout and furniture seemed the same as before.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Long Man - American Pale Ale4.80ExcellentZesty and refreshing yet mellow and very moorish
Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30PoorToo sweet and cloying, thus changed with good grace for a 3.5* replacement.

Mid afternoon a few at the bar. More of a drinkers pub than a foody house.

Late lunchtime. Sat in the riverside patio area - idyllic. There is also a garden abutting the Stour.

Mid Saturday evening - a bit livelier than the George & Dragon and considerably better value. Real fire on the go.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thwaites - Yule Love It!4.00AcceptableReasonable flavour - but a little past its best condition I suspect - it is well into January after all for a festive ale.

Afternoon visit and only a few customers in the bar. The barman was very enthusiastic about the architecture of the building and we discussed the likelihood that it the main bar may have had a partition at one time. We noted that the place was spotlessly clean and all the brass and copper was highly polished. This pub is listed on the Camra heritage pubs site as being a pub with a regionally important historic interior.

I've not been here for years. Ian had a pint of Heineken because he'd been talking lots about a visit to Germany and was feeling lager-home-sick. Needless to say the Heineken wasn't up to much. He also spotted Bass Mild on keg so we had a half of that. Brilliant stuff; gassy, tinny water with a hint of burnt malt. It summed up the 70's beer scene for me (not that I was drinking in the 70's). All in all I enjoyed my visit here. With the 1970's sound track more or less matching my "best of the 70's" the place felt like a time travelers' convention.

Quiet - dozen or so in but no-one at the bar - nice roaring log fire - lift musak - heavy with St Patrick's Day marketing - rather incongruous. Rather dull selection of beers - matched the ambience.

Went for a walk around the woods and countryside, so obviously needed a pint afterwards. Lovely pub with an equally stunning interior and exterior. Matching wallpaper and curtains, felt like drinking in someones front room.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wadworth - Henry's Original IPA3.60AcceptableThis was pretty bland with just a little malt showing itself. Easy drinking but with very little to it.
