Visits Details

Evening until 11pm close. A refugee having found The Door Hinge in Welling closed early Bank Holiday-wise. A gem of a back street house that must be irked that its former regular local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year status has been usurped somewhat by the domination of local micropubs.

The pub is found in Bexleyheath, Greater London, DA6 8PF.

Located in Lion Road some 8 minutes walk from the main Broadway this is a traditional street corner local which is kept in absolutely cared for condition by the current owners. Originally a Beasley's brewery of Plumstead house until taken over by Courage in 1963. The pub has been run by the Johnson family (Ray, Caterina and son Tony) since the 1980s. In that time it has won CAMRA London Pub of the Year on three occasions, plus CAMRA Local Branch Pub of the Year on ten occasions. It offers eight real ales through handpumps on the counter in banks of 3, 3 and 2. You can be sure that your pint or half here will be in the best condition possible. A professionally run local institution. It also has a reputation for home cooked food, which includes authentic special Italian dishes. Sold by Enterprise Inns to the current licensee in 2016.

We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 14 different beers and tried 4 of them.
