Monday afternoon, comfortable and welcoming. We were given several plates of very nice nibbles to accompany our beers. For some reason we decided to avoid the alcohol free Prosecco at £19.95 per bottle.

It was 3.58pm and the signs outside said Happy Hour 4pm til close so we stood outside for a few minutes before entering. The barman informed us that the happy hour prices were for just about everything except cask ales but offered a loyalty card for our efforts. As with the other pubs in the area it was pleasantly quiet this January afternoon.

Old Leigh is thronged today, with live music at two pubs, sunny weather and long queues everywhere for fish and chips, beer and jellied eels. I steer clear of the jellies today but find a beer festival on here – 22 beers on gravity dispense from local breweries in a marquee at the front of the pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brentwood - Pacific Pale Ale4.70AcceptableNot the best in this style that I have drunk, but there are a few floaters in the pint and I think it must be near the bottom of the cask.

Evening. Run by an outfit called East Anglia Pub Company. Like the rest of the High Street pubs tonight, was doing a very brisk trade with many on outside seating.

2135 hours visit. Only a few in - initially slow service but friendly welcome. Usually 5 real ales on but only 4 tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wibblers - Apprentice3.90GoodWarmish - probably first out for a while but still flavoursome with woody aftertaste
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%)3.40Not TriedGoodness me I have not seen one of these hilariously chunky branded handpump devices before where part of the outlet resembles a punk's bullet piercing!

The pub is found in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, SS9 2EN.

Located in High Street by the river / sea front. Probably the best known of the High Street pubs. Large outside verandah drinking area and large inside. This building replaces the original Peter Boat, which was completely destroyed by fire in 1892. A very busy pub, especially in the summer when families are able to eat and drink outside overlooking the sea. The frontage on to the High Street has a set of wonderful Mann Crossman and Paulin Ltd windows. Usually sells up to 5 real ales through 5 handpumps. Substantial outside drinking space.

We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 13 different beers and tried 5 of them.
