Visits Details

22 Sep 2012 (Stephen Harris)
We were treated to a brief guided tour of the restored parts of the Abbey and taken to this bar/restaurant for a lunch of soup, pizza and sandwiches, plus tasting of the abbey beers (all for just Euro 7). The bar has been open for three weeks for private visits and I got the distinct feeling we were the first ever group, as many photos were taken and the chairman of the preservation trust was present in person to greet us.

The pub is found in Hasselt, Belgium, 3511.

The Tuyltermolen is a former watermill and farm buildings within the grounds of the defunct Cistercian Abbey at Herkenrode. A restoration project is underway, with the watermill set to be brought back into use (to generate electricity), and an outside brick oven once again operational, and a bar installed in the main building in the summer of 2012. Herkenrode Abbey beers were launched in 2009 and are brewed at St Joseph in Oppiter. A Herkenrode herb-filled cheese is also made.

We have visited this pub once, seen 2 different beers and tried both.
