Visits Details

22 Sep 2012 (Stephen Harris)
We made a fairly brief late-afternoon visit here to sample some of the Ter Dolen abbey beer range. The place was very busy, and the brewery itself closed up and out-of-view.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ter Dolen - Armand7.20ExcellentServed from a bottle. An unusual beer style for Belgium, this is a hoppy golden ale. It has a big hop bouquet from dry-hopping with cascade hops from the USA. It has a full citrus, grapefruity taste.
Ter Dolen - Donker6.60GoodA smooth, dark brown beer with chocolate and roast barley tastes. A bit sweet.
Ter Dolen - Tripel8.10PoorI tried just a gulp of a friend’s. This was utterly dominated by sweet candy sugar flavours. Other tasting notes I have read describe this beer as dry and bitter. So I can only conclude that this batch had not fermented out properly.

Pub and brewery complex, the home of Ter Dolen Abbey beers. The building is of three wings (one modern, two ancient) white-washed in farmhouse style around a cobbled courtyard. The brewery itself was established in 1994 and fills about half of the complex, with the bar and restaurant in the remainder. The courtyard area is filled with outdoor tables.

We have visited this pub once, seen 3 different beers and tried them all.
