Mid-evening and busy to the point that it was time-consuming to get served.

In here for a quick mid-afternoon, pre-lunch pint, having found the Red Lion closed and the North Star full to bursting point. Lots of paper hats and wobbly legs in here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sambrook's - Brown Dog Riot4.50ExcellentA fine US-style Brown Ale, with good hop flavours on a sweetish base. Just the job.

Early lunch here on a day off from work. Plenty of lunchers; the group of four retired folk on the next table tell me they have a weekly lunch at a different London Wetherspoon – always ham, egg and chips.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hook Norton - Ballast Point San Diego Pale Ale4.50GoodHas definite US hop flavours, but set on a sweet malt base.

Early evening and there are lots of people taking advantage of reduced ‘Monday Club’ food and beer prices.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Revisionist Ruby Liquorice Smoked Beer 3.60GoodA slightly disconcerting combination of flavours in a chestnut-coloured beer. But it seems to work.
Portobello - Ginger Bread Beer4.40AcceptableNot sure if the fault lay with this particular half pint or with my taste buds – but I couldn’t taste any ginger.

Early evening and the pub is pretty busy. The staff are struggling to cope and it takes an age to get served.

Not as busy as the Red Lion across the road, but I gave up trying to get served in here at 6:30, coming back and trying again, successfully, at around 8pm.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Caledonian - Standeaven Brewery APA (African Pale Ale)4.20Excellent- Deep amber in colour. A very fruity smell – nice! Tasty, bittersweet beer with complex flavours.
Adnams - Yeastie Boys Gunnamatta Tea Leaf IPA6.50GoodGolden/amber in colour. Little aroma – just a hint of tea perhaps. Quite dry and lots of bitter tea flavours.

15:00 Still busy with diners. Barman told me that Manager tries for local beers to supplement the standard range.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sambrook's - Pumphouse Pale Ale4.20GoodGood nick but an odd back taste. I find that Sambrook's beers always disappoint.

Mid-evening visit and I stood at the bar talking potatoes and allotments with Leeds Ken.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hydes - Burnt Sienna5.00GoodAmber coloured. A pleasant, rather spicy hop taste.
Inveralmond - Frisco Steamy 4.40AcceptableGolden-coloured. A rather thick, buttery, malt taste – probably shouldn’t have been like this if the festival tasting notes are to be believed.

Quite busy early on a Friday evening – but not a particularly nice atmosphere, and one customer ended up getting “barred for life” after a shouting match out of sight from our seats. Time to move on to the Red Lion.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wadworth - Blunderbuss5.00GoodA brown, full-bodied, malt-led bitter. Bit of hop in the finish.
Caledonian - Tree Brewing Thirsty Beaver5.00AcceptableChestnut-coloured, malty, nutty and sweetish. Caramel tastes. But in flat condition here and may have more to offer than this.
