Low-level Monday evening crowding means I have the rare privilege tonight of taking up a stool in the inside part of this little pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
St Peter's - India Pale Ale5.50ExcellentA nice, robust, English IPA with some peppery hops. Bitter.
Cassels & Sons - Red IPA6.60GoodFizzy from old skool keggery, but nevertheless very tasty.

A presentation tonight of beers from the new and very well-regarded Leigh-on-Sea Brewery. There are three on cask and six or seven on keg of one sort or another. The event has drawn a very large crowd and I soon find the numbers unbearable.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Leigh on Sea - Crowstone5.50ExcellentI had enjoyed a half of this beer at Decemberís Pigís Ear, and a full glass tonight does not disappoint. A very drinkable Black IPA.
Leigh on Sea - Cockle Row Spit5.60ExcellentFrom key-keg. A great, cloudy, US-style IPA.
Leigh on Sea - Legra Pale3.80ExcellentFrom key-keg. A cloudy, US-style Pale Ale. And very nice too.

Early Sunday evening and not busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cassels & Sons - Extra Pale Ale4.90ExcellentA New Zealand import on keg dispense Ė recommended to me by a friend who had been in earlier. Not dissimilar to the Grey Trees beer, but with a lot more balance.
Grey Trees - Chinookian VPA4.20GoodA very pale and intensely hoppy beer.

Here with Robert S for the Tap Takeover event with the Garden Brewery of Zagreb, Croatia. As always at these events here, it is pretty crowded. All of the Garden Brewery beers are kegged.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Heavy Industry - Forza!4.50ExcellentA fruity, golden Pale Ale.
Garden Brewery (Zagreb) - Kiwi Sour4.30ExcellentA really nice, fruity Sour.
Garden Brewery (Zagreb) - Triple IPA10.40ExcellentVery serious stuff indeed. A headbanger in fact.
Garden Brewery (Zagreb) - Milkshake IPA6.20ExcellentThis beer is bonkers. Cloudy and creamy. It both looks and tastes like strawberry milkshake. Yet it has a big alcohol hit. Iím close to five stars here.
Garden Brewery (Zagreb) - Stout5.70GoodStrongly-flavoured, black Stout.
Garden Brewery (Zagreb) - Yakima HBC IPA6.80GoodA golden IPA. Serious stuff but a bit too impacted by carbonation.
Garden Brewery (Zagreb) - Pale Ale5.00AcceptableA competent Pale Ale, but another that is overly-affected by carbonation.

I was very favourably impressed by a visit to Brew York a couple of weeks ago, so could not miss their Tap Takeover here tonight. I resorted after a first pint to some little third pint glasses.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brew York - The Hoptimist Double IPA (collaboration with North Riding Brewery)9.10ExcellentFrom key-keg. A fierce Double IPA.
Brew York - NUBA6.60ExcellentFrom key-keg. A nice, clean, golden, well-hopped US (Vermont) IPA.
Brew York - Blood Eagle4.50ExcellentFrom key-keg. A Pale Ale flavoured with blood orange and grapefruit. Nicely balanced, the flavourings being more subtle than I expected.
Brew York - Rhubiper4.50ExcellentFrom key-keg. Reddish in colour. Sharp, sour, lots of rhubarb flavour.
Brew York - Little RIPA4.20GoodFrom cask. A chestnut-coloured, relatively low-strength, Rye IPA Ė hence its name. Very drinkable.

This pub has been in the news recently for charging £13:50 a pint for a particular beer. Personally I have no problem with that as this is a pub where the price of each of the cask and keg beers is prominently displayed. If you donít want to pay £13:50, then donít order it. I knew full well tonight that my pint was going to cost £4:20 and had the right money ready by the time I was served.

Monday evening and nice to find this pub quiet for a change. Serious beer talk at the bar Ė the declining status of Thornbridge Jaipur, new hop varieties from Argentina, and the booming pub scene in Budapest Ė the latter something Iím hoping to see for myself in November.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Victory Brewing Company - Summer Love5.20ExcellentA keg beer from the USA. Golden in colour and bursting with hop flavours, from the interesting mix of Citra, Simcoe, Cascade and Tettnang.
Anarchy - Boot Boys5.00GoodA Brown Ale that packs a punch.
TicketyBrew - NZ Gold4.00AcceptableA golden beer with fine hop flavours but distinctly lacking in body.
Electric Bear - Inspector Remorse4.70Not Tried

The police cordons are down and Borough Market is open again after ten days as a sealed-off crime scene. Very large crowds are present to give their support to all the businesses that have been affected.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brewster's - Britannia's Brew5.00ExcellentStrength given this year as 4.5%; this is a collaboration brew with Yeastie Boys. It is a pale golden IPA, heavily flavoured with Earl Grey tea for a very aromatic and tasty pint.
Vibrant Forest - Summerlands3.50ExcellentA pale, dry, hoppy pint in superb condition.

Here with Terry L in the early evening for the launch party of new Tottenham brewery BrewHeadZ. Their first three beers are available in key-keg form and are quite impressive Ė they had earlier in the day been available in bottled format at UtoBeer. The language of the evening here is Italian, the native language of the brewers and their large group of supporters.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brewster's - Aromatic Porter4.50ExcellentBlack. A nice, smooth Porter with decent hop levels.
BrewHeadZ - Kitchen Porter5.00ExcellentA really nice Porter, the best of the three beers from the new brewery I thought.
BrewHeadZ - Fired Up Donkey6.60ExcellentA tasty, spicy, cloudy, red Rye Beer.
BrewHeadZ - Electro Beat5.40GoodA cloudy, tasty, hoppy Blonde.

The pub is found in Southwark, Central London, SE1 9AG.

Small pub on the north side of Borough Market run by the same people who own the Utobeer bottled beer stall in the market itself. The bar has 3 hand pulls serving UK cask beers and 6 taps supplying continental and world beers. An extensive bottle beer selection is also available from the fridges behind the bar. The bar has stripped wood floors, pale beige walls and a historic Pilkington glass ceiling. A decked patio provides extra space and seating. Definitely an excellent addition to the Southwark beer scene.

We have visited this pub 138 times, seen 310 different beers and tried 225 of them.
