Very laid-back on a Tuesday evening, although most tables are taken. I suffered some rather off-hand service, but there may have been a misunderstanding of some sort.

The pub is found in Bethnal Green, Greater London, E2 7RG.

A former Truman’s Brewery pub, present here by the 1840s and rebuilt in its present Anglo-Dutch style in 1924. The pub lies at the heart of the fabulous Columbia Road Market and so is frantically busy on Sundays, although this area is a bit of a backwater at other times. These days it is a single-room bar, with wooden floorboards, partially wood-panelled walls and a suspended glass ceiling similar to the one at the Gun, Spitalfields. Small outside seating area at the rear. Well known as a gay venue in the 2000s, it has since taken a different path, specialising in home-cooked and slightly pricy food. One of 21 inter-war pubs across the country granted a Grade II listing by Historic England in 2015.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 2 different beers and tried 1 of them.
