1158 and doors open. A hubbub of activity with a delivery lorry unloading and a handful of customers waiting for opening.

Late afternoon and luckily the sun was still out so there was room inside. Another unspoilt back street gem thus completing my trio of visits in this area today

I felt very pleased with myself for finding my way here without resort to the map. But it seems nobody else was having trouble finding their way here either and the little front bar was hot, crowded and uncomfortable at 6:30pm. Lots of people drinking outside at the front despite the chill.

Lunchtime visit. Very difficult little pub to find hidden away down a Mews. Was busy with Americans drinking Guinness.

All the guide books suggest that this pub is closed on Sundays (except the GBG, which I notice is correct). I suspect that is a ruse to give local residents an opportunity to visit the pub without suffering a major tourist presence. In fact it proved to be quite busy on Sunday lunchtime and I was perhaps the only tourist in the house.

The pub is found in Belgravia, Central London, SW1X 7NR.

A gem of a pub, tucked away in a Belgravia side street, Wilton Row, but close to Hyde Park Corner tube station. Either this pub was once the officers' mess for the Grenadier Guards barracks – or perhaps that was another pub nearby called the Guardsman and this pub in time replaced it – pub histories differ on the detail. Either way it is a characterful old place which celebrates the history of the Grenadier Guards, with prints on the wall and a sentry box outside. There are three separate rooms, with a traditional public bar at the front, and two rear rooms which are now rather food-oriented. The bar retains a pewter counter and there is wood panelling. Popular with American tourists, who like to leave their mark on the ceiling. Said to be ‘haunted’.

We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 12 different beers and tried 5 of them.
