Evening until 10.30pm close. Does not feel as homely after the refurbishment, even perhaps feels unfinished.

Evening's last pub visit, always a good launch for the railway station. Only opened yesterday after a 3 week closure although I noted little change!

Iíve always liked coming into this little pub at the end of a day in Brighton. A nice place to linger whilst thinking about which train to catch home.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Gun - Velo Dog5.00ExcellentA strong-tasting, full-bodied, earthy and hoppy Pale Ale.
Pig & Porter - Fire and Blood 6.50GoodRed/brown in colour. This is a smoked rye saison, and every bit as weird as that sounds.

Evening. Still the Brighton beer oasis for consistent cask ale. Blimey one fizz beer here was over 9 quid a pint, gotta be powdered gold-dust dissolved in Scorpion Venom for that.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - American Pale Ale4.70ExceptionalBest of this brew for a number of years yet a local said he thought the beer had gone downhill and was still there. So much for a standard human palate
Bristol Beer Factory - Independence4.60ExcellentAfter my expressed adoration of the APA a barman suggested I try this for flavour. Very intense hop nose and bitterness but I thought the hops I detected were English rather than US style

Downlands (previously South Downs) - Black Seven-Four7.40Not Tried7.4% at £7.40 has a sort of alliterative quality to it. My taster lead me to believe even a half would be a chore

Evening with the pub at its bohemian Friday best. Always entertaining to see people pay way over the top for overhyped fizz beers.

The pub is found in Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 3PB.

One room pub near Brighton's main railway station. This used to be home to the Dark Star brewery, before the beer production got too big for the pub and they moved to Anstey, West Sussex. However, Dark Star's influence remains with the draught beer range containing many of their beers. With 10 handpumps (including 3 reserved for cider) sported in total there are a couple of handpumps given over to other UK micros as well as taps for Dark Star keg beers, new wave keg beers and continental beers. Several ciders round off the main bar. However, in the fridge behind the bar is one of the best ranges of world beers in a British pub, with Belgium and Germany dominating. Lots of wood in evidence in this fairly small pub and the curved bar is squeezed into one corner. Tables and chairs line the walls. Live music is also regularly available. All year outside seating by the pavement. A must if you are anywhere south of the Midlands.

We have visited this pub 54 times, seen 149 different beers and tried 64 of them.
