Sunday afternoon. 45 miles cycled with 10 to go - deserved a pint or two. Great eclectic decor here still - a real feast for the eyes inside magnanimously including an artwork signpost with pointers to all the other pubs in Wye for customers “feeling hungry”. Unfortunately the closest to real ale was Gadd’s in a polypin.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Beavertown - Neck Oil (keg)4.30GoodI checked the price first following my experience in Whitstable yesterday. Only £5 a pint so I had one.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 54.40AcceptablePolypin. A bit warm and not much life in it.

Very quiet for a Thursday evening. We discussed the high prices that people are paying for Betamax video recorders.

Mid evening friendly welcome a few others in. My first visit here and I liked it, cosy comfortable atmosphere we sat round the bar and chatted to the landlord.

Friday soon after opening time, primarily to get information to update What Pub but also to have a beer. Quite busy and more coming in as I left, two people that I have not met before were working behind the bar and they seemed very keen on their beers.

I had been here about ten minutes after the advertised opening time only to find it closed, I returned about 30 minutes later to find it still closed but I sat on the bench outside for a few minutes and the landlord turned up and opened the pub. We chatted about his plans to open another micropub in Charing which (if change of use is granted) will be called the Bookmakers Arms as Charing holds Point to Point races.

Westerham - Single Hop Epic4.50GoodSingle hop beer. A pleasant fruity ale.

Third pub of the evening. We got a seat. Interesting pub with a leg of ham hanging by the bar off which meat was being cut.

Evening. A double-header venue (The Tickled Trout the other) for our monthly Friday Evening Group, of which I was the last to arrive. Cooled jackets used on the casks rather than a temperature controlled cellar room which I think is a big mistake for beer care and serving.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cairngorm - Stag4.10AcceptableGood taste but as good as flat
Wantsum - Fortitude (was 4.2%)4.60PoorFlat and a chore to drink yet for some inexplicable reason I had a second

The pub opened up early for us at 5pm, we sat at the large table by the window and enjoyed a few beers before heading off the Tickled Trout. A fair number of locals took advantage of the early opening and the pub was busy by the time we left.

The pub is found in Wye, Kent, TN25 5DP.

In Bridge Street, first opened its doors as a micropub over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend 2013 with the evening session on Friday 31st May. The proprietor was Graham Austen, a cabinet maker who had fought objections from some villagers to obtain planning permission and change of use from being a hairdresser's salon. Located at the village end of Bridge Street this one roomer is entered up several steps. As Barbers Arms it was bare boarded with a bar counter, the beer was kept (jacket cooled) in a back room stillaged for gravity dispense on racking made of builders' scaffolding. Large front window made up of individual panes. Bench seating - one of which has its back made of beer cask staves. Unisex toilet at back of building. Was then sister pub to Bookmakers Arms at Charing. Closed in early February 2019 with a Facebook post explaining why: 18 February at 02:11 Thank you to everyone who has supported the Barbers Arms over the past five and a half years. We are very sad that we were forced to close a bar which meant so much to us and many others; we had some fantastic times! Unfortunately the landlord wanted the property back to run his own venture, so we had no choice but to close. We hope to see some of you in the sister micro pub The Bookmakers Arms in Charing, which has the same great vibe as The Barbers. Reopened as Sawyers on 5th April 2019 saying it was a proper pub not a micropub, still selling Kentish real ales.

We have visited this pub 23 times, seen 45 different beers and tried 33 of them.
