Mid afternoon sanctuary from some last minute food shopping. Very quiet but tastefully festive. During lockdown the bar area has had a makeover with the black-painted oak supports stripped back and the ceiling beams revealed and cleaned. The whole place is brighter - an excellent job.

Evening after a thunderstorm - external drinking only of course - the government continue to make the licensed trade suffer more than most. Only a few brave souls under partial cover. Landlord Mark was quite prosaic about it all but looking forward to getting people inside again hopefully this month.

Noon. Some early drinkers in and a few diners as well. Seems to be keeping its Head above water.

Ok - bit of a boring Sunday - all Xmas prep done - so I take myself off for a mini crawl of Canterbury early evening. Kings Head - pleasant enough, with a good few drinkers in - only a couple who appeared to have been here since lunchtime.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Greene King - Ruddles County4.30AcceptableBland and a bit flat. Where did that County of my 30s go to?

Early evening. Not sure what is going on with this pub - had a for sale sign up for months, then scaffolding for a makeover of the frontage. Looks to have been refreshed a bit inside as well - but the old guv still there and he is very proud of a brand new inn sign that is currently in the dining room waiting to be hung up. “Free House” clearly on display but all beers are Greene King. Nice atmosphere - good spread of eaters and drinkers in.

Walked on the icy pavements to my local. Good few in - the common enemy - the weather - helping with a convivial atmosphere.

Early evening - swift half in passing - a few in but not the ale selection of Dover! I don’t know why there are 4 very similar, average ales on.

Sunday lunchtime - unusually quiet - just me and two others. Sign on the blackboard apologising that there was no food. In conversation I was told that most of the regulars were probably at the Maidens Head. Doesn't bode well.

Greene King - Patron Saints Ale4.50GoodBit worried that this had been on since St George's Day - but turned out to be very acceptable.

The pub is found in Canterbury, Kent, CT1 3RY.

This is a traditional one room pub on Wincheap heading south out of the city. Central bar serves 2 areas. One has darts, bar billiards, Sky Sports on wall mounted flat screen TV and a fireplace, whilst on the other side of the bar are more tables and chairs. Hops decorate the wooden beams and bar. Four handpumps. Pumpclips behind the bar and on the wall are testament to the beers they've had on in the past but the range is far more limited of late. Bat and Trap and Darts leagues also feature.

We have visited this pub 33 times, seen 45 different beers and tried 29 of them.
