Exceptionally busy here on a Saturday evening. No cask beers available.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wild Card - Unite Forage3.30ExcellentFrom a keg of some kind. A crisp, pale, dry beer, flavoured with wild flowers and herbs gathered at Walthamstow Wetlands.
02 Sep 2017 (Stephen Harris)
The Walthamstow Village Festival is taking place this weekend and both this venue and Pillars Brewery next door (which we also visited) are packed out in the evening. Wild Card’s new taproom at their new, larger brewery site in Higham Hill is also now open, apparently. The last standing cask beer (a New Zealand Pale) ran out whilst we were in the queue.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wild Card - Simcoe & Citra Pale3.30AcceptableFrom keg. Nice hop flavours spoiled by over-carbonation and chill.
Wild Card - New Zealand Pale Ale4.80Not TriedRan out.

On a warm evening, there are loads of people here, enjoying the outside tables. The Wild Card Brewery itself has recently moved to larger premises in Higham Hill.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Quiet here in the mid-afternoon on a rainy Sunday. I noticed that lots of people were looking in but not staying for a drink. Unexpectedly, none of the cask beers were from Wild Card.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Three Sods - SeSsiON IPA4.40ExcellentVery tasty. Light and hoppy.
Three Sods - Belgian Bugger5.00AcceptableA golden, Belgian-style Witbier. I’m not sure that it quite works.
Three Sods - Leapyear Golden Ale5.00Not Tried

An early lunchtime rendezvous with a 30-strong mixed group of Leyton Orient and Notts County fans who are beginning a pre-match pub crawl here. The Wild Card brewers are from Nottingham and have opened up especially early for us. In fact, jugs of free beer are just being poured when the bulk of the group move on, leaving just few of us to benefit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wild Card - Citra Pale3.90ExcellentRight on the button.
Wild Card - Ace of Spades4.70GoodA rich, black Porter.

I manage to get here ahead of the crowds and bag a cosy table next to the coal fire.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wild Card - Raspberry Saison3.90ExcellentFrom key-keg. Pale golden coloured and cloudy. Very dry and brett-sour, with a fairly subtle raspberry flavour. I liked it a lot.
Wild Card - Jack of Clubs4.50GoodA ruby-red, fruity Bitter.
Brick - Kinsale Bitter4.00Not Tried

Dave and I move on here by bus. We don’t stay long as a band is setting up inside and light rain is reducing the attractiveness of the outside tables. It later transpires that a couple of other friends are drinking just around the corner and come here just after we leave – they report that the band were ‘superb’.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wild Card - Wild Hop Pale4.30ExcellentBrewed using wild, green hops gathered from Walthamstow Marshes. Really good. One of the best of its type that I have tried.
Wild Card - Dana4.30AcceptableGolden and quite dry.

Early Sunday afternoon and there are lots of families here, taking advantage of some nice sunshine and using the outside tables.

Lunchtime visit, when quiet here. A bit chilly, and we huddled close to the stove. The cask beers are now dispensed via handpumps rather than from the stillage.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wild Card - Ace of Spades4.70ExcellentRich, dark Porter with lots of coffee and chocolate flavours. Good enough to have a couple.
Gipsy Hill - Southpaw4.20GoodA nice, hoppy, Pale Ale

Early afternoon visit. Quite busy, and it’s nice to be here when some of the surrounding businesses are open too. Korean bacon and cabbage dumplings to help the beer down.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wild Card - Pale Ale3.80ExcellentAmber-coloured and very tasty. I could drink plenty of this.
Wild Card - Queen of Diamonds5.10GoodA tasty IPA, let down a little by flat condition off the stillage.

The pub is found in Walthamstow, Greater London, E17 9HQ.

Wild Card Brewery was established in around March 2013, brewing initially on the brew-plant at Brentwood Brewery in Essex. February 2014 saw the development of its own premises on an industrial estate off Shernhall Street, Walthamstow, after earlier plans to brew in the cellar of the Warrant Officer pub had fallen through. A small bar has been developed on site and opens to the public on Fridays to Sundays. In early 2018, all brewing moved to a much larger site elsewhere in Walthamstow, but this premises continues as the Brewery Tap.

We have visited this pub 13 times, seen 26 different beers and tried 19 of them.
