Unexpectedly busy on Sunday afternoon, with lots of people watching a Crystal Palace match on TV. Other screens are showing rugby, but nobody is watching that.

Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Runner4.00GoodI don’t often drink this beer, but I can see why so many people enjoy it. A traditional Bitter.

Pretty busy at around 7:30. Many of the customers are standing in the rear yard, even though it’s a bit chilly. After a while sitting inside, I can appreciate why – the music is almost painfully loud inside.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Revisionist Belgian Saison Beer5.00GoodI needed to don my reading specs to spot the word ‘Marston’s’ in the small print on the pump clip. Definitely in the Saison style, but cleaner and smoother than is typical – not much of the whiff of the farmyard about this one.

Very crowded and lively in the early evening – they do say that Wednesday is the new Thursday in the City.

The pub is found in City, Central London, EC2M 1RP.

Despite its modern appearance, this is actually a very long-established pub, having faced onto St Botolph’s Churchyard since at least 1769. It was rebuilt in its present form at the foot of an office block in 1972 and today is more usually thought of as facing Wormwood Street, although there is still an outside beer terrace at the back, overlooking the churchyard. In 1972 it was specifically designed to be part of the Berni Inns chain, at what was probably the height of that chain’s popularity. Today it has a comfortable lounge bar at ground floor level and a basement bar with a pool table and more of a public bar feel. For a while branded as a ‘Taylor Walker’ (historically it had been a Truman’s house) pub and offering a 10% CAMRA discount.

We have visited this pub 4 times, seen 12 different beers and tried 4 of them.
