Very busy on an early Sunday afternoon, I believe the BrewDog Co have now acquired the Draft House group which for me is a big negative, not a fan of BrewDog at all!

There is a wide range of London Beer City events to choose from tonight and Woody and I come here first after a day watching cricket at the Oval. This pub has branded itself the Australia Beer Embassy for the duration of the week and tonight there is a ‘Meet the Brewer’ and four keg beers from Stone & Wood. We duly meet some Australian types and are treated to a complimentary round.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Stone & Wood - Stone Beer 20166.40GoodDark chestnut brown in colour. Described as an ‘Altbier’ by the brewery or as ‘a bit like a Stout’ by the barmaid. A slight roasted barley flavour and some chocolaty flavours. I thought it was a bit thin for its strength.
Stone & Wood - Cloud Catcher5.50AcceptableOn keg dispense. Hazy golden/orange. Fruity flavours. Over-carbonated.
Sambrook's - Wandle3.80Not Tried
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Gypsy Queen4.20Not Tried
Pioneer Brewing Co. - Whitbread Pale Ale (brewed at Windsor & Eton)4.00Not TriedAn interesting development, but I could not quite bring myself to try this.

Busy, but not as loud or as frantic as on my previous visit. Pint served in a dimpled mug with possibly the shortest measure I have ever seen. The first top-up came unprompted: I then had to ask for it to be further topped-up.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sambrook's - The Draft House Session IPA3.50GoodGolden. As usual for Sambrook’s, it is a predominately malty taste, although there is a good hop presence too.

Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Guthrie4.30Not Tried

Very busy on a Friday early evening and also very loud. Not the place for a quiet drink after work – I’ll have to come back on a quieter evening. I took my eye off the ball whilst my pint was being served and it came in a great big clunking dimpled mug, with a very short measure.

Five Points - Railway Porter4.80ExcellentNot, unfortunately, the ‘Derailed Porter’ that is currently available, but still very nice indeed.

The pub is found in Bethnal Green, Greater London, E2 7QB.

One of the oldest pubs in the area, the Birdcage was established here by 1760 in a former farmhouse. Long a Truman’s Brewery house, for much of its history this was a market pub, with Columbia Market across the road. The continuing flower market still brings many people to the area on a Sunday. In 2014 the pub was acquired by the Draft House chain and given a new lease of life. Now a single-room establishment, although a step up shows where one of the old divisions used to be.

We have visited this pub 4 times, seen 11 different beers and tried 5 of them.
