Visits Details

28 Jul 2017 (Stephen Harris)
Early evening and there is a good crowd in. The cask beer selection here seems to have improved since my last visit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brockley - Pale Ale4.10AcceptableGolden. Predominately a malty taste today, with little trace of hop flavours.

Early evening after over an hour on a 343 then 47 bus from Borough. How much worse will this get with Tooley Street one way and Tower Bridge soon to be closed for 3 months.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride4.10AcceptableQuite mediocre

Nice to see this pub busy and a bit more lived-in than on my previous visit. A rather mainstream cask beer range suggests that the pub might be subject to a tie as part of its lease.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride4.10AcceptableAn unusually malty pint of Pride.
Butcombe - Bitter (or Original Beer)4.00Not Tried
Caledonian - Over the Bar4.20Not Tried

Evening. Work in progress still I feel especially in terms of beer range and care.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride4.10PoorNasty metallic tang after-taste. Told bar staff as I left and to their credit they called the cellarman who went downstairs to check then came back and said was end of cask and took it off sale

This pub had always appeared to me to be terminally ill and I had never entered it before tonight. Great to see it revived by the excellent Antic people. Given that it is surrounded by some of London’s most innovative new breweries, it is a shame none of their products were on sale.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Butcombe - Bitter (or Original Beer)4.00GoodA malty, traditional Bitter.
