10 Feb 2018 (Stephen Harris)
An early meeting here with five or six of my friends and a group of 20-plus Notts County supporters of our acquaintance, who are on their way to watch football at Barnet. Most of them have been here since 10:30 and I am a latecomer at 11:20. We have taken over the whole of the rear area.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Table Beer3.10GoodA low-strength, golden, hoppy beer in the ’murky’ category. Lemons.
Southwark - Pamplemousse 5.00GoodA hazy, golden beer that tastes of grapefruit juice.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Slovenian Wolf Single Hop3.90ExcellentUsual high standard Oakham ale
Weird Beard - Hippy Hating Hippie4.10ExcellentLiked this a lot on a miserable late Winter night. A rose cinnamon cardamom stout, all flavours not overbearing so enjoyable

BeerABVScoreNotes
Weird Beard - Collabageddon ’17 6.40ExcellentExcellent black IPA. A number of teeny brewers' logos on the pumpclip. One wonders what part they play in a collaboration, I assume they drop a hop cone each into the boil
Mallinsons - The Redeemer5.00ExcellentAs usual Mallinsons produces superb goods

Uprising (sub-brand of Windsor & Eton) - Cola de Mono4.80Not TriedI thought the Uprising brand name was reserved for fizz beers but clearly not. This described itself as a Chilean milk stout
16 Jan 2018 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until 11.30pm close. Chance catch-up with old mucker from my regular Angel, Islington drinking days.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - The January Brews4.80ExcellentA nice warming brew, with Goldings
Siren Craft - Suspended in Citra4.00GoodSomewhat resembling scrumpy cider or bilge water in opacity. Not the cleanness of taste I should like for a Citra single hopper

The pub is found in Charing Cross, Central London, WC2N 4HS.

Formerly the Welsh Harp, a small narrow long pub on Chandos Place, just a stone's throw from Charing Cross railway station, so very handy for commuters. Hanging baskets at the front are attractive. A steep flight of stairs leads to the toilets and an upstairs room. There is an alley at the rear for smokers. Won the ultimate accolade as CAMRA National Pub of the Year in 2010. In 2011 CAMRA London Cider Pub of the Year, in 2012 CAMRA West London branch Pub of the Year, and again in 2014 as joint branch Pub of the Year and in 2016 as branch Pub of the Year once more. Previously privately owned it was sold to Fuller's in mid July 2014 for a reported £7 million so changes expected. Closed for some days in February 2015 for an upgrade to plumbing and electrics, in particular to swap over the Gents and Ladies toilets. Good range of regional and micro breweries beer available through 10 handpumps and a superb range of ciders and perries sold from boxes in the chilled cabinets behind the bar. 10% price discount for card carrying CAMRA members on cask ales.

We have visited this pub 404 times, seen 809 different beers and tried 337 of them.
