Mid-afternoon on a Sunday and the pub is busy, which emphasises its relative sparsity of furniture. It has a very un-Southend sort of atmosphere. Bohemian almost. Musicians are dragging in their equipment for a later gig.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Crouch Vale - Brewers Gold4.00GoodA beer that I very much like, but served crazily cold here. Good flavours still manage to shine through.

13:30 Should have been going to Clacton to board the paddle steamer Waverley but the strong winds changed the departure pier to Southend so I took the opportunity to visit a Heritage pub. Just us. Nice to hear Kate Bush on vinyl.

Adnams - Ghost Ship4.50AcceptableTasty but far too cold and I much prefer a real glass.

The pub is found in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, SS1 1AJ.

Victorian pub with an inter-war refit. Much altered but still with a lot of original features which has given the pub a place on CAMRA's Heritage pub website. Lots of interesting bric-a-brac including a pulpit that houses the turntables that play the pub's collection of vinyl. The menu is all vegetarian. All glasses are polycarbonate which suggests the pub may get lively at certain times. On one side, the pubsign features local musician Wilko Johnson.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 5 different beers and tried 2 of them.
