Visits Details

27 Feb 2024 (Magnus Greel)
Early evening and heaving I managed to share a table with a couple of other chaps and enjoyed my beers in this friendly and welcoming micropub.

01 Nov 2023 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. Of all the gin joints and micropubs in all the towns in all the world, a pub quiz has to be taking place on my random visit. Meant all seats taken, they are rarely held here too.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marble - Pint (was 3.9%)3.40AcceptableThe Guv confirmed the cask label said it was 3.9% and not the downgraded new 3.4% version or else I should not have chosen it. Not an inspiring ale
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Iron Ore (collaboration with Derby)4.80PoorPoured as flat as a pancake from the gravity dispense chilled room. No life in this pint, making it a real chore to finish. No off-flavours to make it undrinkable but really best not sold in this condition
Westerham - British Bulldog4.10Not Tried
Heritage (formerly William Worthington Brewery) - Charrington Oatmeal Stout4.00Not TriedWhere is this brewed now the Heritage Brewery is closed
13 Sep 2023 (Philip Pirrip)
Spur of the moment evening visit until close. Few in and conversation soon lit up. A cornucopia of stuff on the walls to feast the eyes on.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Bewdley - Worcestershire Sway5.00GoodA good bitter hit with lots of body but poured quite flat
Chiltern - Session IPA3.90GoodCan't remember when I last had Chiltern, if ever, on draught. A full on malty and hopped hit with lingering bitterness
Timothy Taylor - Boltmaker (formerly Best Bitter)4.00Not Tried
Nuttycombe - RCH Old Slug Porter4.50Not Tried
02 Jul 2022 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit badly planned as was on impulse after several other geographical options were thwarted by train difficulties. Found it eventually having walked past it once already. All micropub physically and in attitude. Walls and ceiling plastered with pump clips and transport memorabilia.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Lord's (cuckoo at Golcar) - Chosen Man New World Bitter4.40GoodNew cask on - very dry aftertaste
XT Brewing - Animal Brewing Hop Kitty3.90AcceptableNew cask on albeit poured with little head or condition. Another ale with a very dry aftertaste
Barsham - Barsham Oaks3.60AcceptableQuite sour hopping, clearly end of cask and turned out to be
Arbor Ales - This Time Next Year Rodney6.00AcceptableBeen on a few days I suspect as poured totally flat, really strong caramel vanilla taste though. A half sufficed
Parkway (formerly Glastonbury Ales) - Session I.P.A.4.20Not TriedRan out
Anarchy - "I Dont Tip"6.20Not Tried
Leigh on Sea - Press Strata To Play4.50Not Tried
12 Dec 2015 (thebrewingman)
Saturday lunchtime and we found this gem in the beer dessert known as East Surrey. A few non-league Whyteleafe supporters in who were good company as we were on our way to Merstham v. Tonbridge Angels. Very welcoming.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Flying Monk - Elmers3.80Excellent
Crafty Brewing - Dark Sessions4.00ExcellentImproved as the glass emptied.
Downlands (formerly South Downs) - Best4.10Excellent
Harbour - India Brown Ale4.90ExcellentA different take on an IPA/Brown Ale.
Goddards - Mocha Stout4.20Excellent

The pub is found in Whyteleafe, Surrey, CR3 0EL.

A shop in Godstone Road, converted into a micropub. Originally intended to be called The Broken Drum but the micropub in Blackfen had coined it first. Benches and high tables in the front of the premises with a small bar behind. Beers are kept in a temperature controlled room at the back. Some are gravity fed, others on hand pumps behind the bar area. Extensive range of real ciders. By 2022 7 handpumps in use for cask ales, ciders / perries on gravity dispense from a rear chilled cellar room and 4 keg beers served through taps fitted into branded petrol cans. Walls and ceiling are festooned with pump clips and transport memorabilia. Lined glasses used throughout.

We have visited this pub 6 times, seen 28 different beers and tried 17 of them.
