About 11:50 and time for a swift half whilst waiting for the Butchers Arms to open at 12:00. A nice pub but spoiled by the television showing This Morning on ITV and discussions about peoples personal problems and relationships, not the sort of programme that I want to watch at any time.

We arrived early for our friend's birthday do opposite so popped in here for a pre lunchtime half. Daytime TV dominated however I doubt for the customers benefit.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70GoodJust a half in case it was vile however much better than expected, could have managed a pint.

Morning visit and not many in at this time of day. I picked up a copy of a tabloid newspaper and tried to find some news in it, I gave up and watched the news on the pub's television instead.

A group of us decided to pop in to here after visiting The Butchers. It was a pleasant surprise to find Old Faversham Dark available.

Having had lunch with Andrew and Jane, I was thinking about what I could do on my return back to Ashford, and as I don't get to come to Herne that often, it seemed to be a wasted chance not to stop off here on my way back. Haven't been to this pub for a long time. Newish public bar with pool to the left, lovely old lounge bar with fire and dark wood to the right. Friendly landlady.
Princetown - Best Bitter (aka Dartmoor IPA)4.00AcceptablePart of Sheps beer festival where they have a guest beer on. Dusty beer, wood shavings. Not great, but with some citrus hops on the end.

I've been told this pub does a good pint of Master Brew but in the past I've not been able to escape the immense gravitational pull of the Butcher's Arms to try it. Being a Monday the Butcher's was closed so I ventured in. The bar to the left has a pool table in it so I went to the bar on the right which was a low ceilinged snug kind of affair and quite pleasant. There was a live singer in to add to the fun.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70AcceptableA weird one. Nothing wrong with it but it wasn't as hoppy or as caramely as Master Brew usually is.
