Busy; the crowd including Mr Hammerton himself. “Problems in the back room” mean that there is no cask beer available tonight – to be sorted in time for the pub’s first beer festival which starts tomorrow. Much against his better judgement, I persuade Dave R to stay anyway and try some of the keg stuff.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hammerton - Blanche Witbier5.30GoodApparently a brand new beer launched today – although I note it has the same name and same strength as a previous Hammerton beer. A pretty authentic Belgian Witbier I thought.
Hammerton - Underback6.00GoodFrom a keg of some sort. Golden. Alcoholic grapefruit juice.

About ten days into operation, this new brewery tap still has the feel of novelty, and it is very busy in the early evening. A nice place with an excellent beer range, although just two cask beers available tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hammerton - Chicha Pale4.50ExcellentFrom some kind of keg. The last glass of Chicha I drank (somewhere in darkest Ecuador) was grey and lumpy and tasted of puke. This beer (brewed from Peruvian maize) is reddish/purple in colour and has a kind of spicy-fruitiness. Unusual and very nice.
Hammerton - Apprentice No More4.50ExcellentOn some form of keggery. A golden beer, sold as a ‘Session IPA’. Great hop flavours – Mosaic I think. Comparatively dry – after the last beer I drank at least.
Bad Seed - Joker Pale Ale4.50GoodGolden. A boldly-flavoured beer. Sharp, resinous and fruity from the Joker hops. A bitter finish.

The pub is found in Holloway, Greater London, N7 8LT.

The brewery tap for nearby Hammerton Brewery. This pub has had a variety of names down the years, most recently the Lil Red and the Wig & Gown. Re-opened by Hammerton in July 2017. No original pub fittings have survived inside and the large single bar features bare brick walls and bare wooden floors, with minimalist lighting. There are four handpumps on the bar.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 6 different beers and tried 5 of them.
