The Whitsun Beer Festivals here are legendary and draw folk from far and wide to sample beer from the latest newly-opened micro-breweries, alongside more established favourites. Except, it seems, when it is cold and rainy and TV is showing live coverage of the Queen’s Jubilee events. Eerily, spookily quiet here. There are 126 beers on the list, so I have no intention of listing them all– just the (too many) that I drank myself.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Pink IPA6.70ExceptionalBeer of the day for me by far and, like me, it had travelled from Leyton to be here. A strong, hoppy beer, with a reddish colour and fruity taste coming from the addition to the brew of cranberries.
Salopian - Divine Comedy3.90ExcellentReally good, dark, chocolately beer with plenty of citrusy hops
Bishop Nick - Heresy (was once 4.1%)4.00ExcellentBishop Nick beers are currently brewed at the Felstar Brewery. A crisp, golden, hoppy beer.
Blackhill - Brass Thill4.30GoodAmber in colour. A best bitter with a bit of a hop bite.
Grafton - Green Duck - Golden Duck4.50GoodGolden bitter with a good, malty taste.
Lytham - Sovereign Tribute4.10GoodGolden and hoppy.
Ridgeside - Old Yorkie4.30GoodBrown, full-bodied and malty.
Baseline - English Electric Lightning6.00AcceptableBrown/orange colour. Crystal malt taste and a bit murky. Some hop character.
Frys (renamed Bute) - Bunny Chough5.00AcceptableDid not seem to be at its best.
Gower - Sampson's Jack4.20AcceptableA rather thin, brown, malty brew.
Sherfield Village - Solo – IPA 20125.60AcceptablePale, strong and hoppy, but spoilt by slight ‘yeast-infection’ type taste.

Final pub visit for Ian and I on our weekend of booze. Takes a bit of finding if you don't have good directions (which we did thanks to Mick the Hat). The pub was heaving so we had to sit in the corner of the outside covered area and lean sideways to avoid the drips of rain leaking in from the roof. The pub interior is lovely and the beer is served from a hatch.

Came here for their Bank Holiday beer festival. OK, so it costs £10 in the taxi to get here, but it was well worth it. About 8 beers on in the pub and another 10 or so on a stillage in the garden. Good BBQ on as well. Sat in the garden and enjoyed the feeling of being in the pub in the summer.

Pictish - Blue Moon6.00ExcellentI had this twice as I liked it so much. Lots of citrus sherberty hop. That's really really lovely. Could drink that all night. Doesn't taste of 6% at all.
Acorn - Crystal IPA5.00GoodAmber, That's quite a tasty beer. Nice base beer. Hops are quite green. Some toffee. Quite cool. Herby.
Distant Hills (was Howard Town) - Long Dendale Light3.90AcceptableBit of toffee. Nice enough. Candy, hard toffee in flavour. Then citrus hop.
Marble - Mount Hood3.80AcceptableGold, no head. Lots of Mount Hood leafy hop. Cos it's not really a bittering hop, so it's really leafy but rest isn't that good. Just needs something else to balance the Hoods. Leafy.
Pictish - Motueka4.50AcceptablePale gold. Nettley herby hop profile. Eek. It's quite distinctive, not sure it entirely works.
Salamander - Tower of Strength5.00AcceptableGold. Rather nice actually. Some good herby hop.
Cotleigh - Monument4.00AcceptableGold, no head. Better condition than some at the fest. Not overly keen on this. Some fart, some hop.
Glentworth - Harvest Gem4.30AcceptablePale Gold, Bit thin, not wonderful. Some citrus hop, dullish.
Salopian - Oracle4.00AcceptableTastes a bit cascadey. Decent aroma. Bit of nettle. But drinkable enough.
Prospect - Giant's Hall4.10PoorGold. Not great. Earthy. Smells of putty. Nasty.

The pub is found in Hedgerley, Buckinghamshire, SL2 3UY.

Lovely pub in the tiny village of Hedgerley between Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield. There is no bar, instead there is a hatch with a black board next to it advertising the beers on gravity. Lots of flower baskets outside, wood and red brickwork inside and out. Garden at rear with plenty of seating.

We have visited this pub 4 times, seen 33 different beers and tried 25 of them.
