I’m surprised to note that it must be at least five years since I have visited this pleasant pub. It manages to be both highly traditional and quite upmarket (with prices to match) at the same time.

The pub is found in Bethnal Green, Greater London, E2 7SJ.

This pub was built in 1865; tied to West’s Brewery (which was just across the road) with Jemima West installed as licensee. By the 1980s it had become a free house and briefly experimented with home brewed beer. The pub was substantially renovated in around 2008 with a move upmarket. There is a small bar area, some pavement tables, a first floor roof garden and a noted upstairs restaurant. This pub is a former Michelin Pub of the Year winner. There are three handpumps on the bar.

We have visited this pub once, seen 2 different beers and tried 1 of them.
