Apparently legendary in status. Heaving although we managed to get a seat when someone left. Funny pub. For all the people and noise and bustle, it didn't strike me has having much atmosphere. The walls were a bit clinical, and the high ceilings and bright light levels didn't help.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Pale Rider5.20AcceptableA champion beer of Brittan, in the brewers own pub. Umm. Well, we moved on swiftly - not because it was off, or bad, just not overly interesting.
Parkway (formerly Glastonbury Ales) - Beaky Blinder4.40PoorServed well, but a weird oaky flavour really put me off.

Late afternoon fairly busy with a group of chaps in and a couple at the bar. No visit complete without sampling one of their delicious pork pies, washed down with some fine ale.

Mid to late afternoon on a cold grey day, one other customer in the bar area soon joined by others. My first visit in over 15 years and has not changed a bit, unlike the surrounding area which is undergoing major redevelopment.
BeerABVScoreNotes
S43 (formerly Sonnet 43) - I Shall But Love6.80ExceptionalDescribed as a toasted mocha coconut porter. Did what it said on the clip and accompanied my pork pie perfectly.

My first visit here, disappointed as there was no room inside. Had my pint on the pavement outside. Loads of beers on but no room to note.

Inevitably crowded on a Saturday evening. I sat in the rear garden for the first time since the summer of 1989 (have I mentioned that I have a good memory for pub visits?). I have not taken note of the full list of beers available.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Sheffield - Nugget4.00ExcellentPale, sharp, fruity.
Black Iris - Nelson Sauvin4.00ExcellentOh yes! There doesn’t seem to have been much Nelson Sauvin hop around lately – perhaps because it is all in here.
Welbeck Abbey - Night Watchman5.60ExcellentExcellent smoked Stout.

The original destination real ale pub in Sheffield, and still always worth a visit. Everyone knows this; so it was packed. I stuck it out in the corridor, only spotting my elusive friends in the main bar as I was leaving. I really should pay more attention to incoming text messages.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Black Rock - Pale Ale4.20GoodPale gold, hoppy and refreshing.
Holsworthy - Old Market Monk6.10AcceptableAmber-coloured. Said to be in a Belgian style. Too malty for my liking.

Superb atmosphere as ever here, busy but managed to squeeze into the front room.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Abraham Thompson - Madagascar stout3.90ExceptionalFantastic flavour for such a low strength in a stout. Chocolate, coffee, toffee and berry fruits combine to give a superb thick beer. My score 18/20.
On the Edge - Smokey Peat's Winter Stout4.10ExcellentExcellent flavoursome stout for its strength with roast coffee and dark chocolate malt flavours and a good dose of hops. Full bodied mouthfeel. My score 17/20.
Salamander - Orient Tar4.50ExcellentRoasty stout with good coffee malt bitterness and some hop for balance. Full bodied with a dry roast finish. My score 16/20.

Chantry - New York Pale3.90GoodThis sample was apparently brewed at Weetwood. Quite hoppy pale ale with a good balance of citrus hop and malt with a refreshing finish. My score 15/20.
