Traditional Xmas morning pint and mince pie before dinner. Overlooked the usually gorgeous Sneck Lifter in favour of Old Empire.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Old Empire IPA5.70ExcellentReally good. Robust IPA flavours, well kept and just the right amount of buzz from the first beer of a long boozy day.

Wasn't impressed on this visit I'm afraid. Meal was distinctly average and with so many handpumps, barely a single interesting beer among them.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Batemans - Combined Harvest4.70PoorAfter such a treat of great beer earlier in the day, I really didn't feel much love for this. Pretty nondescript. I left just under half a pint of it.

Open by 11am on Christmas Day - good start! 7 ales on offer, all forced through a sparkler (we had clearly crossed the North-South divide). This pub always seems to be busy and this was no exception. Plenty of smiley, happy revellers wearing silly hats and exchanging presents. Christmas just isn't Christmas without a pint or two down the pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Sneck Lifter5.10ExcellentI must learn to ignore the other beers in this pub and stick to this regular favourite. Always delivers, thick, dark and appetising, roasted mocha malts and not spoiled by the sparkler.
Ringwood - 4X Porter4.70AcceptableWas thrilled to see this 'scoop' on the pumps when we walked in but was left a tad disappointed. Nothing wrong in essence but not enough going on to warrent a second pint. Too Guinessy.
