| Hogan Sampling | ![]() | 22 Sep 2026 | 1st beer of this visit: Second night on and lasting head and lacing. A fruited first hit. A tropical fruited hoppiness rising. Not too tropical for me. Served in good nick. See my entry dated 21st September 2026 for my full account of it. |
| Hogan Sampling | ![]() | 21 Sep 2026 | 2nd beer of this visit: This amber ale from Peterborough was also on a few weeks ago and much enjoyed then. Following brewing first set up in 1993 in Oakham, Rutland, it relocated to their main brewing operations in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. Here on its first night exhibiting an exceedingly frothy head and lasting lacing. A dry but fruited first hit. A spicy hoppiness rising from its combination of three US hops, Chinook, Amarillo and Cascade, lending a very subtle tropical fruitiness. An orange and grapefruit bitterness taking centre stage. Just the merest hint for me of peach and passionfruit. A maltiness joining in from its Maris Otter lending a biscuity and nutty flavouring, its Wheat Malt aiding its head retention, and Medium Crystal Malt contributing a distinct toffee, caramel and sweet toastiness. A dry moreish hoppiness sailing out with spicy, earthy and pine resin flavours lingering. Served in top nick with plentiful conditioning. |

| Hogan Sampling | ![]() | 12 Sep 2026 | Fresh on and exhibiting very good head and lasting lacing on this amber ale with a golden hue from brewing set up in 1993 in Oakham, Rutland, before the brewery relocated to Peterborough, Cambridgeshire in 1998, where it initially operated out of the brewpub, The Brewery Tap, before expanding further to its large-scale commercial brewing facility in the Woodston area in 2006. A hoppy first hit from its blend of three USA-sourced hops, Amarillo behind its tropical peach, passionfruit and citrus orange flavours, Cascade lending its grapefruit bitterness and floral notes, and Chinook aiding its pine resin, earthy, and subtle spiciness for me. A dry fruitiness rising with a hint of citrusy orange, a grapefruit bitterness, and a mix of tropical peach, passionfruit and red berry fruits. A malty bitterness from its Maris Otter emerging, its Wheat Malt aiding the beer’s body and head retention, and Medium Crystal Malt contributing those initial sweet caramel and rich toffee malt flavours for my taste buddies. This aided balancing out its heavy citrus and pine hop bitterness. A dry hoppy, earthy, spicy, herbal and distinct pine resin bitterness sailing out. Served in good order with lasting conditioning. |
