Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Bear & Ragged StaffExcellent20 Apr 2012 One of the nicest beers of this genre that I have tasted. Fruity, nutty and dark, without the acidic harshness that I usually associate with this style.

Martin the MildmanGood12 Apr 2012 Black with roast malt dominating but not quite enough supporting hoppiness giving a rather one sided taste. My score 15/20.

The Last Inn, Oswestry, Shropshire

WhoScoreWhenNotes
Bear & Ragged StaffExcellent09 Dec 2011 A smooth, dark brew, not too heavy. Nicely nutty with burnt caramel and a little blackcurrant. None of that harsh bitterness at the end, instead a rounded bitter finish. Good body with the fkavours in good balance.

IanExcellent23 Oct 2006 I love this in bottle conditioned form, but I can't remember the last time I had it on draught (if at all). Now this I like. Black with thin tan head. Juicy dark malts, a bitter edge. Faint molasses and chewy malts. Thick, gluttonous and lovely. Choc malt and then a reall bitter dark choc, espresso edge on finish. Lovely
