Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

RayPoor23 Dec 2010 Surprising hints of a gueuze on the nose - almost as if they'd used a brettanomyce yeast - carried through to the limited flavour and a slightly harsh mouthfeel and finish.
McGargleNot Tried11 Dec 2010 Only took a sampler but the impression was of a beer that had lost its way. Uninspired malts and poorly defined hops left a 'what else?' feeling.

McGarglePoor19 Dec 2012 Brewed by a different brewer at a new location and it showed. Toffee aromas and toffee in the mouth with hints of phenols on the finish. Yugh! Where were the hops?
McGargleGood12 Dec 2009 Flavours more foreward as beer ages. Still enjoyable.
McGargleGood10 Dec 2009 Dark golden ale served perfectly clear. Less hoppy than I recall but pleasant enough and well balanced.
McGargleAcceptable08 Oct 2009 More opaque than hazy. Plenty of hops but not much else.

McGargleAcceptable19 Mar 2011 Another bland beer. Where have the hops gone?

Old Mill Inn, Maryculter, Aberdeenshire

WhoScoreWhenNotes
RayAcceptable04 Dec 2010 Some phenolic hints.
RayAcceptable21 Nov 2010 This was a predictable amber ale missing the hoppy zing it had on launch. Malts chosen add little to the interest.

The Archibald Simpson, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire

RayPoor25 Aug 2010 After some poor Deeside beers recently I asked for a (large) taster. I'm glad I did - the beer was awful. No hints of citrussy hops. Assertive in middle mouth with unpleasant finish.
McGargleNot Tried30 Nov 2009
RayGood30 Nov 2009 Well made and balanced golden hoppy ale with dry citrussy clean finish.
McGargleNot Tried31 Jul 2009
McGarglePoor10 Jul 2009 Served too green for my taste this time.
McGargleAcceptable18 Jun 2009 Outstanding hoppy ale with cascade and (I think)fuggles. Unusually, not on best form tonight, cardboard overtones.

Red Star Inn, Kirkton of Skene, Aberdeenshire

WhoScoreWhenNotes
McGarglePoor20 Nov 2009 Tired and flat - the serve did not do the beer justice.
