Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

RayGood29 May 2013 Good roasty and hoppy stout would have been improved by serving through a tight sparkler.

RayExcellent04 Jan 2011 Extraordinarily complex but well balanced stout. Would have been 5* is served at appropriate temperature. Still a 'beer of the year' contender and it's only early January.
RayExcellent03 Jan 2011 Sparkling dark ruby with tight dark beige head it looked great. Some hops and fruit on the nose leads to well proportioned flavours. Some fruit, hints of chocolate and liquorice against an top quality malt base. Satisfying long finish. Would have deserved 5* if served warmer. Had to wait 15 minutes for the beer to warm and its true quality appear.

McGargleAcceptable01 Oct 2015 At its best this is a deep and subtle beer. This wasn't and seemed poor value at £4.35.
McGargleExcellent12 Feb 2015 Much more depth of flavour than keg versions.

McGargleAcceptable27 Jan 2015 Nothing like as rich as previous tastes. More a modest black IPA on this form.

McGargleExcellent04 Jun 2014 Both hoppy and rich - clever trick.
RayAcceptable31 Jul 2013 More choclatey than I remember it seemed a little ill defined and lacking the roasty flavours. Served too warm - could have dragged this down to 2* really.
