A dozen or so of us all piled off a restored East Kent Regent V in Sealink livery made for an incongruous sight for passers by. The pub opened an hour early for us at 17.00 so we enjoyed the exclusivity until booked opening time.

Mid afternoon- I cycled nearly thirty miles to get here and was thirsty. All drinks being served from a table outside the front door. No entrance to the pub but it was warm and a good number of people around the front and in the garden. The garden has an old roadside signpost that was removed from the T junction outside - much more info than the replacement sign but impossible to see from the road. A lovely touch.

Mid afternoon our group soon filled up the nooks and crannies of this superb pub, we caused much bemusement amongst the locals who really should be used to vintage buses of all varieties disgorging crowds of SAGA louts by now!!

Sunday evening on a wet and windy day. We arrived for 7pm evening opening and were soon joined by another customer. A pleasant evening in a traditional pub with a nice log fire. We shared a packet of Jellyatrics between us.

****RE-OPENED TUESDAY 1ST JUNE 2021 AND FROM 20TH JULY HOURS ARE 12-3, 6-9 TUESDAY TO SUNDAY ONLY (CLOSED MONDAY) (seating now inside and outside permitted) ***** One of the best pubs in England. It's in CAMRA's national pub inventory because it hasn't really changed much in the last 100 years. In fact in 2011 the Jemison family celebrated 100 years of running the pub. All beers are on gravity and Goacher's is a regular. It's locally known as Doris's after the last landlady. Before that it was Alf's. A 20 minute (no more no less) brisk walk from / to Appledore railway station. Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2015. The handpumps atop the pewter bar counter were used once upon a time but not now. Extensive garden for fair-weather use. Regrettably Doris died in April 2016. The pub closed for some weeks as a result of the bereavement. Re-opened, hopefully forever, on Saturday 11th June 2016. Presume it will soon become known as Kate's! Card payments now accepted here.

We have visited this pub 131 times, seen 198 different beers and tried 126 of them.
