Evening. The extension seems to be nicely settling in and well used but the main bar is for me.

1955 hours visit - my first since the extension was opened. The extension drinking area is very much in keeping and from an exterior point of view the extension has pretty much fully blended in seamlessly. The wooden decked partly covered lean-to outside area seems half inside and half out and was equipped with ashtrays - I had forgotten all about pub ashtrays which makes it an area to avoid.

Not too busy late afternoon on a Sunday - I actually got a seat.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Summer Wine (SWB) - Mokko Sweet Milk Stout6.00ExceptionalLast beer of the day so took my time over this one. Silky smooth with sweetness from chocolate and toffee malt flavours. Very rich and full bodied leaving a lingering sweet malty aftertaste. My score 18/20.

Lunchtime. Scaffolding and building works outside the pub, it looks as though they are extending the place.

Visit 2105 hours. Reasonable footfall for a heavy drizzled evening. I affectionately call this The VD House owing to the related small enamel signs on the bar pillars. Overheard what sounded like plans to extend and change the interior.

Standing room only as ever on a Saturday afternoon in this very popular York institution.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rooster's - Last Stand4.30AcceptablePale, hoppy and dry in true fashion. Not entirely to my taste but a good beer all the same. My score 14/20.

18th anniversary beer festival in progress.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Prior's Well - Silver Chalice4.10GoodVery pale ale with excellent citrus hop character and a dry, hoppy finish. My score 15/20.
Bird Brain - Penguin3.60GoodA malty, roasty but low hopped black mild. Quite a dry, roasty finish. My score 15/20.
Copthorne - Gold3.60AcceptableSo pale that it's not really gold at all. Dry, citrus hop flavour dominates right through to the finish. My score 14/20.
Old Bear - Spectacled Bear4.30AcceptableStrong caramel flavour with a rather cloying sweetness and a hint of diacetyl. Not very well balanced with a dry finish. My score 14/20.
Leadmill - Splash & Dash4.20AcceptableVery pale with dry hop bitterness and a very dry, astringent finish. My score 14/20.
Globe - Vulcan4.50PoorGolden bitter with a very bitter, phenolic taste. Definitely not to my taste. My score 9/20.
23 May 2010 (Martin the Mildman)
Always flies the flag for Mild in May.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Joseph Holt (see also Holt's) - Mild3.20ExcellentUnusual to find this away from the tied estate, but in much better condition here than most tied pubs! The malt really comes through in this sample with caramel and liquorice flavours and the characteristic dry finish. My score 16/20.

The pub is found in York, North Yorkshire, YO1 6HU.

Once carried the apt dedication of the Lendal Bridge Inn owing to its proximity to the bridge. Has been the top ticking pub in York for a long time. Can get very busy as it is quite small. In mid 2012 an extension of the building towards the river nearly complete. A correspondent has advised that: Extension nearly finished. Fireplace remains. To left and right thereof, voids through which one may (soon) pass into new room, already ceilinged with doors and adorned murally with tinny adverts. Leading to large patio doors leading to large patio. A correspondent has advised at 10.07.2012 that the extension is now open and in use. The bar and ceiling are made out of old doors! 8 handpumps on the bar.

We have visited this pub 17 times, seen 46 different beers and tried 29 of them.
