This pub has been on my must do list for some time. Bass is a big seller here and is served 'banked' in the true North East style. A good welcome from enthusiastic bar staff but some of the locals seemed horriied that the dreaded carpets have finally made it to the floor of this traditional wet led boozer.

Marston's - Bass4.40ExcellentFull measure with a head like an ice cream cornet. It reminded me of the Star at Netherton.

Mid afternoon and friendly welcome by the curious locals in this basic town centre no frills drinkers pub. I like this place and could have stayed for more. Pub 5 of 10

Marston's - Bass4.40ExcellentVinous, complex and slightly sulphury. A classic Burton beer.

Busy, 'no airs or graces' local with friendly service. A proper pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Bass4.40ExcellentJust missing five stars this time as it was served a little cool. Still an excellent Burton bitter and worth travelling for.

Full of people enjoying the Bass but more lager being served than I remember. Very friendly to strangers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Bass4.40ExceptionalSuperb. Crystal clear with long lasting white head. Some hints of sulphur on the nose and perfect cellaring brings out the complexity of flavour that is all too often missing. Well balanced fruit, toffee and hops with just enough body. On this form Draught Bass is still a classic.

The pub is found in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, TS18 1SU.

In Knowles Street, last refurbished in 2017, The Sun Inn is famous for its Draught Bass. Historically, The Sun Inn was reputed to sell more Bass than any other pub and this was when Bass was a national brand. Today, demand remains high with up to 12 18s being demolished a week. The Sun has a unique pour for its ale. To find out what you'll need to visit! But it produces a high, long lasting head.

We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 3 different beers and tried 2 of them.
