Lunchtime - just two others in. New tenants from January. Music nights on Saturdays. Only the one hand pump on. We sat in the window seat by the wood-burning stove and watched the gale gather pace.

Mid afternoon - 4 drinkers plus the pub dog. Friendly enough. This pub may be out in the sticks but the prices are pure inner city - £3.80 for a pint of Whitstable Bay and the lager drinker next to me had to hand over £4.10 for his pint. Good old Sheps.

Cosy bar area, open fire, homely. Plenty of hops (of course) as Sheps source their Cascades from the parish. Quiet on a damp Thursday lunchtime. The food was good value.

Shepherd Neame - Late Red4.50ExceptionalWonderfully malty yet resinous, with a hint of sourness.I love this beer.
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70GoodServed direct from the cask at the back of the bar.A real trip down memory lane. Not as citrussy as of late, perhaps towards the end of the barrel.
