2110 hours visit. Difficult to find as not fully pre-researched but followed my nose and lights on the towpath. Excellent pub with clear real ale enthusiasm but oddly no CAMRA literature about. Felt it could do with having the mine host holding court.

Early Monday evening and quite busy. We sat in a back room with a serving hatch and celebrated a friend's birthday. This is the pub that is pictured on the front cover of the 2012 Good Beer Guide.

A busy Friday evening. A large group of us almost took over the room to the left of the bar, we enjoyed a brilliant evening with the company of locals and their dogs. I really like this place. Unfortunately we got to Berkhamsted station late evening only to find the service on the West Coast Main Line suspended after a person hit by a train at South Kenton earlier in the evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Saison4.50Excellent
Tring - Riser3.70ExcellentA house beer brewed by Tring. I did not make a note of the ABV but it was a good session beer, and would have been around the 3.8 mark.
Vale - Endeavour4.00ExcellentNamed after the fictional Inspector Endeavour Morse, this beer had a delicious citrusy, hoppy flavour.
Coach House - Flintlock Pale Ale4.40AcceptableNot to my taste at all. Strong buttery, butterscotch flavours.

A warm and sunny afternoon, we enjoyed several pints, and a good chat with the landlord. There were eight different types of snuff available on the bar.

A most enjoyable evening. The landlord made us feel extremely welcome, and the free food that seems to be a Friday night tradition in this pub was most welcome.
