Straight off the train and in for a welcome. Lively with foreground rock music. Very mucha young person's pub in the evening. Enjoyed it.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ossett - Silver King4.30ExcellentGood to see a tight sparkler properly used.

13:30 Our group were the only people in. I suspect a very different atmosphere in the evening. An intriguing approach to the pub if you come from the Scarbrough Hotel and walk through the station undercroft and over the river.

Beer festival in progess with a small stillage on the upper level. Very busy early on a Friday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fernandes - Malt Shovel Mild3.80ExcellentBlack with a full on malt character of roasty, toasty malt and hints of chocolate. Just a backgound hint of hops. Fairly dry, roasty finish. My score 16/20.
Kirkstall - Three Swords4.50ExcellentVery pale and hoppy with lots of citrus hop flavours. Good balance and body to give a full flavoured beer with a fruity, citrus hop finish. My score 16/20.

I can see why Brian came here. Split level pub with murals of indie-bands and the like on the walls. Bit dead when we were there but I imagine at the weekend it rocks!

It was about 3 pm on a Tuesday so not suprising to find it quite empty. There were a few people outside enjoying the spring sunshine. To know what this pub is like you need to visit its own website, it describes itself as "oh-so cool" and to honest it probably is. I can imagine it being great and heaving with students on a live music night.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ossett - Big Red4.00GoodChocolate malt beer. Good.
Ossett - Yorkshire Blonde3.90GoodBig blonde beer with creamy northern head and some sourness. Only mild bitterness, but really nice.

Large, dark bar with traditional fittings, serving Ossett's main beers and a selection of guests both on the bar and in bottles. No food as of yet, but live music should be a fixture coming up.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goose Eye - Over and Stout5.20ExcellentA classic, dry, smoky stout thats very moreish!!
Ossett - Silver King4.30ExcellentThe classic - a pale Yorkshire ale with lemon and grapefruit on the nose and a decent, sweet body.
Ossett - Excelsius (was Excelsior)5.20ExcellentA strong pale ale, with tons of grapefruit on the palate, which is long but bitter.
Ossett - Big Red4.00ExcellentRuby red in color, this is a moderately-strong beer that's big in full, malty flavour with a peppery hoppiness.
