Mid afternoon for my first venture into deepest Beeston CBD and pondered over how I'd not been to this gem of a pub while we enjoyed our beers in the central enclave.

A nightcap on the way back from the Victoria. Another CAMRA heritage pub. Unfortunately it was full inside with one of the smaller rooms shut due to COVID. A massive covered area has been created in the car park so we had to sit there.

After a long session in the Victoria thought we ought to do the other GBG pub in town. Very busy.

A fairly large group of us, and we sat in the small private bar/snug area which was a bit of a squeeze.

Fairly quiet on a Wednesday lunchtime.
BeerABVScoreNotes

07 Jan 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Quite busy on a Saturday lunchtime.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Leatherbritches - Scoundrel4.10GoodDark brown stronger mild with a bitterweet character and some fruity hop in the finish. My score 15/20.
Milestone - American Pale Ale4.60AcceptableA bit off style for this with bitter malt and yeasty flavours dominating over slight hoppiness with little citrus character. My score 13/20.

Saturday afternoon, We sat and enjoyed our beer in a quiet corner of this multi-roomed bar. The staff seemed to be knowledgeable about the beers on offer.

Local and passing trade providing the custom on a Monday lunchtime.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Abbeydale - Dr Morton's Rabbit Punch4.10ExcellentPale bitter with a smooth well rounded flavour of malt and citrus hops. The finish is clean, hoppy and lingering. My score 16/20.
Leatherbritches - Scoundrel4.10GoodThis was billed as a mild for the Nottingham Mild trail, so must have changed recipe as was now much less bitter with malt and fruit flavours dominating. Dark brown in colour with a fruity finish.

This pub justifiably describes itself as a Cask Ale Emporium. It has been voted Pub of the Year by the local Camra Branch. There were plenty of other beers on offer in addition to those that I have listed.

Fairly quiet on a Monday afternoon but a generally good and relaxing atmosphere. I had originally just come for the mild on the mild trail but stayed for some more beers it was such a good pub. Currently Nottingham CAMRA's pub of the year and it's not even in the GBG yet!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Spire - Dark Side of the Moon4.30ExcellentGood malt character to this reddish mild with toffee and chocolate notes. A little fruity hop and a pleasant malty finish. My score 16/20.
Leatherbritches - Scoundrel4.10GoodA dark brown bitter brewed as a house beer and sold at a very reasonable £2.00/pint. A fair bit of hop bitterness and some roast malt flavours. My score 15/20.
Leatherbritches - CAD4.00GoodAnother £2.00/pint house beer, this is more of a traditional bitter with a bittersweet fruity hop character and a dryish finish.

The pub is found in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, NG9 1FY.

Old coaching inn in Church Street, that has been through Hardys & Hanson's and then Greene King and was then a free house. The pub is now listed on Everards's website as one of its - presumably with great freedom to stock other breweries' beers. Rambling interior with many rooms and lots of wood. Interesting small snug and bar. Excellent beer range with 14 available on the day of one visit. Well worth a visit. CAMRA East Midlands Pub of the Year 2010 and 2011.

We have visited this pub 10 times, seen 38 different beers and tried 14 of them.
