Visits Details

I don't normally post details from Beer Festivals but I'll make an exception for this one which is in an excellent location with plenty for all tastes.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rother Valley - Smild3.80ExcellentDark brown mild with sweetish malt flavours. Seems to have picked up a "Harvey's" yeasty flavour. My score 16/20.
Rother Valley - Englands Best4.00ExcellentGolden ale with a well rounded mix of malt and hop flavours. Also with a "Harvey's" yeasty flavour. My score 16/20.
Wylam - Admiral Lord Collingwood (previoulsy Collingwood Festival Ale)4.10GoodPale with quite a lot maltiness in the flavour. A little hop bitterness in the finish. My score 15/20.
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Blue Top4.80GoodStrong copper coloured bitter with strong citrus hop flavour and some malt balance. Dryish hoppy finish. My score 15/20.
Salopian - Renaissance5.00GoodStrong pale ale with good hop character, some citrus flavours and quite a high bitterness. Dryish, hoppy finish. My score 15/20.
Houston - Helgas Big Jugs5.00GoodPale strong bitter with sweetish tangy hop character and a bittersweet fruity finish. My score 15/20.
Royal Tunbridge Wells - Royal Best Bitter4.10AcceptableQuite dry and bitter tasting traditional style bitter. A little too one dimensional for my taste. My score 14/20.

Their 02nd Beer festival here and another packed crowd in the marquee and on the platforms. Good weather and all ales sampled were served in tip top condition. Plenty of people taking rides on the steam & diesel trains as well. Several Camra branches noted that made bus trips here and fellow Pubsandbeer scribe Whinger spotted enjoying the ale. A very popular beefest and good value day out had by all.

11 Jun 2010 (Ian)
Came on the Friday night for the CAMRA session with Chris and Jason. Good night, sat drinking and chatting about beer. As I only had 3 hours, the time just flew by.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Houston - Helgas Big Jugs5.00ExcellentPale gold, lasting white head. Lots of german hops, huge amount of hops. Really tasty earthy german hops on finish. Great condition. Hops are outstanding. Now that is good
Salopian - Renaissance5.00GoodGood blond hoppy beer, in excellent condition.
Little Valley - Python IPA6.00AcceptableBit too syrupy on the malts, bit uncultured, some harsh English hop on finish. Bit sweet. I do quite like the hops on the finish, but ultimately too syrupy.
