Evening visit until 11pm close, a visit planned to try the Stingo. So I can recall this visit in years to come I shall prompt myself by saying Mr Asbestos.

Lunchtime visit, I sat in the small bar at the front which was quiet (apart from the racket from the sandwich bar on the other side of the alley) and enjoyed a couple of pints. The cellar cooling equipment had failed which meant that that the O.B.B. was at a nice temperature whilst the other lines were fobbing. The restaurant and other bars appeared busy.

Evening visit until 11pm close. Once again all bar staff were welcoming and chatty. Roasted my butt next to the welcome real fire.

Evening until 11pm close. Not quite so atmospheric in the front bar as on a cold winter's night with the fire crackling but hey ho a snip of a price for such a venue anytime. Conversational barmaid.

Timeless pub that is always a pleasure to visit. No room in the Tap Room, so I sat in the corridor and was served through a hatch from the bar – I can’t think of another central London pub where you can still do that. Still £2:90 a pint in here – very cheap for the area.

Amazingly, few in our group had been in here before and it was an eye-opener for some. At 10pm, quiet enough for us all to squeeze into the front bar. I think it would be fair to say that you come here for the atmosphere rather than the beer. Disappointed to find that the more-interesting Sam Smith’s bottled beers weigh in at around £6 a pint.

The pub is found in Fleet Street, Central London, EC4A 2BU.
Located in a little side alley, Wine Office Court, on the north side of Fleet Street. A 1667 pub with multiple, multi-level rooms. Upon entering from the alley turn immediately right for the most enchanting part of the pub - the little front tap room which perhaps Dr Johnson once frequented and has three handpumps and a roaring fire in winter.
We have visited this pub 12 times, seen 2 different beers and tried both.
