Evening visit until 11pm close. Once again all bar staff were welcoming and chatty. Roasted my butt next to the welcome real fire.
Samuel Smith's - Old Brewery Bitter | 4.00 | | A beer I know that is not to everyone's taste but, after all, what is?? I could find no fault with the condition here |
05 Oct 2018 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit until 11pm close. Unlike many tourist traps, the bar staff were engaging in conversation.
Samuel Smith's - Old Brewery Bitter | 4.00 | | Bordering on excellent but for a vague faint haze |
17 Jul 2017 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until 11pm close. Not quite so atmospheric in the front bar as on a cold winter's night with the fire crackling but hey ho a snip of a price for such a venue anytime. Conversational barmaid.

Timeless pub that is always a pleasure to visit. No room in the Tap Room, so I sat in the corridor and was served through a hatch from the bar – I can’t think of another central London pub where you can still do that. Still £2:90 a pint in here – very cheap for the area.
Samuel Smith's - Old Brewery Bitter | 4.00 | | This beer is so variable (but that is part of the joy of wooden casks). Tonight’s is creamy, woody and has hints of vanilla – I wish it was always like this. |

Amazingly, few in our group had been in here before and it was an eye-opener for some. At 10pm, quiet enough for us all to squeeze into the front bar. I think it would be fair to say that you come here for the atmosphere rather than the beer. Disappointed to find that the more-interesting Sam Smith’s bottled beers weigh in at around £6 a pint.
Samuel Smith's - Old Brewery Bitter | 4.00 | | In superb condition here, but it is a rather mundane pint. |

12:30 Had the right hand room to ourselves. Roaring fire. Very atmospheric.
Samuel Smith's - Old Brewery Bitter | 4.00 | | A lacklustre beer. |
09 Jan 2013 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening near to closing time. The front small bar was just being swept of its tourist attraction sawdust for another day. Sam's at £2.90 pp.
Samuel Smith's - Old Brewery Bitter | 4.00 | | Very smooth to the bottom of the glass |

A brief, after-work visit. Pub very busy but I managed to find a perch in the most interesting bar (the one on the right as you go in) which gives a hint of what many London pubs must once have been like.
Samuel Smith's - Old Brewery Bitter | 4.00 | | A rather ordinary, brown, fruity bitter. |

A friend of mine recommended this pub, oh, 8 years ago. It's taken me a while to try it. It's got a great interior with cosy, dark rooms and 2 bars.
Samuel Smith's - Old Brewery Bitter | 4.00 | | Good slightly resinous, slightly fruity brown bitter. |
