A queue was starting to build up for a slightly delayed 12.00 opening, luckily we were the first in line so bagged the raised level corner table and stayed longer than planned. As one tends to here!

Afternoon visit and fairly quiet, I recognised one customer that I had seen earlier in the Last Heretic. Joules beers were served on handpump whils most of the others were on gravity dispense. Still one of the very best pubs in this town.

Evening. Why on earth did Bass then Hardys & Hansons then Castle Rock give up here. A classic which Joule's must be very proud to run.

The pub is found in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, DE14 1EG.

Proper drinkers' pub. The main frontage is on Cross Street but it is also accessible "round the back" from Milton Street. Ale straight from the cask! Once the Bass Brewery Tap 'til the accountants got hold of it, then it had a spell with Hardys & Hansons then Castle Rock and now Joule's. The inner tap room has barrel tables and bench seating where the beer is served from a small counter, next to the cask stillage, using a mixture of gravity and 5 handpumps. The more comfortable lounge leads to a third small room. There is an outside corridor with benches too. Reopened in March 2017 after a far ranging refurbishment which added an additional room which was previously part of the pub's living quarters.

We have visited this pub 9 times, seen 37 different beers and tried 12 of them.
