11am visit and the doors opened promptly. We were lucky as we did not know that this was the last day of 11am opening on Mondays to Fridays as they rarely got anyone in before 12:00. Today must have been the exception to the rule as there were nine of waiting outside all wanting Mild Ale.

I was the first customer at exactly 11:00 this morning and soon joined by about nine or so other customers all of whom were drinking Mild.

I have a tick beside this pub in one of my old Harvey’s Hoppers books, so I must have been here before back in the dim and distant. But of the pub I had no recollection. I sat briefly in the atmospheric left hand bar.

11:30 Two others in. We had the left hand bar to ourselves. My first visit here since April 1990 and I was sorry to see that the wall mounted handpumps had gone to be replaced by a conventional array on the bar counter. Our second round enabled me to ask the barmaid for "Six of the best" but it fell on stony ground. She obviously never read the Beano.

A large group of us were waiting outside for the doors to open at 11am, which they did. Full marks for punctuality, and rather a lot of Harvey's Mild was consumed in just thirty minutes before we headed up the road for a bus to continue a Harvey's crawl.

Just after 11:00 hours, and the door was open. There were already a couple of customers in the pub, and I think the barmaid was a bit surprised when nine of us walked in and all ordered Mild.
