Another CAMRA heritage pub ticked off. Terrific screenwork dividing the bar area into a number of different sized area areas. Deep red embossed upper walls and ceiling giving this a real moody feel - even on a sunny afternoon.

Evening. Despite being quiet the service was disorganised and did not seem to cater for each "booth" area fairly.

Marston's - Pedigree4.50ExcellentBeer was in great condition but the heavy restrictor ripped the guts of the beer out into a silky smooth foam

12:15 I had received a voucher from Nicholson's welcoming me back to the Argyll after its refurbishment. Fearing the worst we popped in for a quick look. Looks a bit fresher but otherwise unchanged apart from a new sign.

Crowded at around 7pm.

Windsor & Eton - Knight of the Garter3.80AcceptableUsually a tasty, golden pint. But this cask was well past its prime.

Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Runner4.00Not TriedNote: this beer is brewed by Truman’s Brewery. It was brewed under contract for a while by Nethergate and then by Everard’s whilst Truman’s were setting up their own premises, but it has never to my knowledge been brewed by East London Brewery (ELB) as sometimes reported on here.

Early afternoon and not too busy, I sat in a bay window and watched the world go by I

10:50 Few having breakfast. The pub was involved in the Truman's Taste Test which I undertook and placed my vote on-line today.

First stop on an evening tour of three ‘Heritage Pubs’ in the area, deliberately chosen for a Monday night when they are not too busy. It is, nevertheless, pretty busy in here, even at £4 a pint.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Windsor & Eton - Knight of the Garter3.80GoodA pretty good, golden beer. But it is hopelessly over-chilled in here and takes ages to be warm enough for the full flavours to come through.

The pub is found in Soho, Central London, W1F 7TP.

Just south of Oxford Street near the Undergound station on Argyll Street, near the Palladium Theatre. This is a wonderful piece of Victoriana in the centre of the West End. Lots of dark wood and etched windows and glasswork. Dark red mouldings on the walls and ceiling along with 2 snugs at the front complete the picture. Upstairs is the Palladium Bar and the whole interior is marvellous. Ground bar bar counters have a total of 16 handpumps in clusters of 4, 8 and 4. Significant refurbishment in April 2022.

We have visited this pub 16 times, seen 48 different beers and tried 13 of them.
